Dorothy McIntyre, co-head of the reference department at the Jackson Madison County Library in Jackson, Tennessee is the East Coast Employee of the month for January 2008. Recently, Dorothy worked with LSSI's IT department in resolving problems with the Library's Internet provider, and in the words of the IT Director, "(Dorothy) did... take care of everything without being asked, she did so without missing a beat."
She began her library career at Christian Brothers College as the Head of the Periodicals Department and subsequently became a library assistant in the cataloging department at Memphis State University. In 1989 she became an employee of the Jackson Madison County Library.
Dorothy earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Tennessee at Martin with Teacher Certification in English and French. She has completed several continuing education courses relating to her profession including: Managing Public Access Computers, Genealogy for 2003 and Beyond, Web Site Design and Publishing, and the Expert Researcher.
As part of her reference duties, Dorothy utilizes her excellent computer skills to troubleshoot the public access computers. She developed and has maintained for the past 10 years the Library's 125 page web site. She also serves as supervisor on the evenings and weekends that she works.
Dorothy holds membership in the Pi Sigma Phi National Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta National English Fraternity, and a lifetime membership in the Tennessee State PTA. She served as coordinator for the Cancer Talk-A-Thon for twelve years and has been active in various other programs involving cultural arts.
